ComposTumbler 08001 Back Porch 5-Cubic-Foot Heavy-Duty Poly Compost Bin

Works for us!4

We've had one of these for about a year and purchased it after a lot of research. By and large it's been a great purchase. I think it probably works better than most other products on the market. The compost is fast we can keep composting far further into the winter than we would be able to otherwise and it's held up pretty well. We have noticed that the screen that helps drain the composter needs to be kept clear and may need regular cleaning to make sure nothing gets too soupy. One other minor annoyance is that the lid doesn't stay open well without holding it so getting things in and out of it can be a hassle.

In regards to the other review complaining that the composter doesn't work when filled only with greens it's a composter not magic. You do have to know something about composting and create a balance of greens and browns to make it work most effectively. That's not a product defect. It's like buying a skillet and complaining that it burns your eggs because you didn't know you needed to grease it before putting the eggs in.

Tumbleweed 200003 Rotating Compost Bin - Green

Great Product - Buy 2!5

We have just gotten our second one. This is a great product because we can just push to tumble instead of using a shovel or rake or special compost turner. Since we both have back problems that just didn't work.

It works real well even in the shade. We have ours on the north side of our house (in CA) so it takes longer than four weeks but it still works. It does get fruit flies and other insects and worms but we haven't had problems with rodents or raccoons which do live in the area. If you don't put meat or fat in it it doesn't smell like food it smells like dirt so mammals aren't attracted.

However once you get it filled you do need to let it sit and compost without adding anything else (it helps to keep turning). Then you need to find a place to store the compost and to move it which was too strenuous for us. So our solution was to buy two one for storage one for putting new stuff in. The second one doesn't take up a lot of extra space because they both use the same space to rotate.

So start with one then when you find out how easy it works you'll want the other one.

We ordered ours through Planet Natural and it came quickly and in good shape. It's real easy to put together (but you do need 2 people) and not that heavy when empty (about 30 pounds).More detail ...

Achla CMP-05 Spinning Horizontal Composter

Composting made easy4

I bought a composting bin a number of years ago completely oblivious to what is involved in composting. Toss stuff in and it "magically" turns to compost. Wrong! Compost has to be turned I later learned. So the bin was emptied and has been sitting in my backyard for quite some time as it does not facilitate easily turning the compost (or turning it at all for that matter). I came across turning tumbling and spinning composters and selected this one. I transferred the stuff I had been tossing in a trash can (in hopes of the "magic" happening) into this composter. Wow! One week later and it looks and smells wonderful! It still has a ways to go and I still have more learning to do on the subject but this composter has made the job very easy--almost not a "job" at all! I will more than likely continue composting for years to come because this composter makes it so simple and clean.More detail ...

Earthmaker EARTH 120-Gallon Aerobic Composter

Great Composter!5

We are pretty new to composting so I can't give a highly technical review but I'll tell you what I can. Our family of 4 has owned this composter for 7 months now. I am really beginning to love this thing. Here's why..

-It's big. It doesn't look it in the picture but it really is a good sized contraption. We cannot come remotely close to filling it up. Perhaps we have little waste as a family but really I cannot fill this thing up. Of course we only have one leafy tree in our yard so that may play a part.

-It's contained. Our dogs run and play around it but have not seemed to care that it is there so the odor must not be too tempting. (We put ours on top of nine 12" patio blocks.)

-It's Easy. If I forget to mix it one week it's still fine. I also don't have to break my back to try and turn over a compost pile. I have back problems and that is a huge plus for me.

-It's pretty easy to Assemble.

It took about 2 months for it to really start composting but now that it's started it works great. My guess is it had to build up all the bacteria and such that breaks down the matter.

The only problem that I've really seen so far is that the first one we ordered had several broken pieces on it. We sent it back with no problems through amazon and the second one we got was fine.

All in all I am very satisfied with this product and feel it was definitely worth the price.More detail ...
